This project seeks to use the ArcGIS StoryMaps platform to introduce students to the great cultural and linguistic diversity that exists within the French-speaking world, moving beyond the borders of France. Students are introduced to the topic using an ArcGIS map of the francophone world. Students then engage further with the topic by creating their own interactive ArcGIS StoryMap of a particular French-speaking country or region, embedding it with multimedia content that represents the country or region's unique cultural and linguistic heritage. A complete outline of all steps is included on the project page.
Students will analyze and discuss the information related to the United Nations 17 Sustainability Development Goals on the "Les Objectifs de développement durable" website. In small groups, they will choose one francophone country and 5 of the 17 United Nations goals. After doing some research, students will use Utellstory.com to illustrate how they would implement the 5 chosen goals in their country of choice. Each goal will be represented by an image, an explanatory text, and an oral narrative. ACTFL interpretive, interpersonal and presentational communication modes will be activated as well.
