This project uses Twitter to give students the opportunity to communicate via social media in the target language. Twitter has proven to be an excellent tool for writing and corresponding in a relevant and authentic way. My students have really enjoyed using it throughout the semester and even beyond their matriculation in class.

Novice (low, mid, high)

Using the music video "Territory" from French musicians The Blaze, students will interpret a representation of an Algerian family with a worksheet designed using a multiliteracies pedagogical approach. Before watching the video in class, students will read an excerpt of an interview in French with the musicians and answer true and false comprehension questions for homework.

Intermediate (low, mid, high)

This pre-reading activity uses the platform Voyant Tools to orient students to the vocabulary, tone, and style of literary text. Students generate data with the online program and then make informed inferences based on the most frequent words and the places in which the words appear in the text. With the attached worksheet, students define key terms in the literary work, group terms into characters, setting, and action terms, and then make data-based inferences about the plot and tone of the text.
