This is a project that allows students to collaborate with various digital tools while practicing FL skills and enhancing cultural competencies in a given lesson. Examples of digital tools used for this specific lesson are flipgrid (speaking), twitter and padlet (writing and culture), as well as virtual reality with Google cardboard to experience culture.
This project will allow students to run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain at the festival of San Fermín from the comfort and safety of the classroom using virtual reality. The objective is to give students an immersive cultural experience in addition to learning about this world famous event and festival. The students will use Google cardboard viewers along with a smartphone and the google cardboard application.
This project uses Twitter to give students the opportunity to communicate via social media in the target language. Twitter has proven to be an excellent tool for writing and corresponding in a relevant and authentic way. My students have really enjoyed using it throughout the semester and even beyond their matriculation in class.
This interdisciplinary lesson combines Spanish language, history, art, and cultural studies. Students annotate historical moments contained in an authentic text (Renau’s mural). By the end of the semester, students will have generated a complete timeline of the events studied in class. Students also create their own artwork related to another moment in history and add it to the timeline.
