Students use Peninsular and Latin American paintings to discuss visual media. The students then take inspiration from these works to create and discuss their own three-painting series.
At the beginning of the semester every student across all sections of a language course will brainstorm a medium (digital and/or physical) that has the capacity to include input from each student in GER 1101 this semester. Then, all students in each section will vote on one medium for the project. Examples include, but are not limited to: newspapers, magazines, a Youtube channel, a tumblr page, or website for a fictitious business or city. Over the course of the semester, journal assignments will act as drafts for the media submissions. Once the journal is revised, a final draft can be published via the collaborative medium.
Students work collaboratively to write a Wikipedia article in Portuguese, requiring them to develop skills that transcended normal language instruction, from real-world cultural research to foreign-language computer coding. Each student will be responsible for individually authoring a section of the Wikipedia page, 400-450 words, using at least three citations.
