This Google Forms activity creates a quiz to be used as formative assessment. To practice the interpretive mode of communication and engagement with authentic materials, students watch an embedded video about movie genres and then answer questions based on the movie.
To make the quiz, google to google forms. Click the gear in the top right corner and change the format to quiz. You can embed an image or video of your choice into the quiz and set the point value for questions.
As students watch the video, they mark off the genres that they hear. Students are able to turn on closed captioning to help with comprehension and can rewind the video as needed. Once they have finished the video, they submit the quiz and they receive automatic feedback from the website. This allows students to learn key vocabulary and evaluate their own language progress in a low-stakes environment.
